The English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) is a longitudinal study of a representative sample of men and women aged 50 and over living in England. This is a core post within the ELSA team, and the primary responsibilities will be to support the development of new measures for future waves of ELSA to include studies of the psychosocial and economic impact of chronic pain, the development and application of biological ageing measures, and studies of cognitive ageing. The post-holder will also be involved in ELSA research more generally, and in MSc level teaching in Population Health and Health Psychology, and in supervising student projects. The successful candidate will work with the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) team, under the supervision of Professor Zaninotto. The research will entail analysing data on environmental exposures and their effects on cognition, dementia and healthy ageing. The successful candidate must hold a PhD and have excellent analytic skills, including statistical analysis and data handling and knowledge of the evidence base on environmental exposures and health outcomes. Desirable skills include experience in working with advanced longitudinal statistical methods and a track record of publications. Appointment at Grade 7 (£42,099-£50,585) is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (£34,605-£39,980) per annum, inclusive of London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date PhD is being awarded.
